An intro to the story.

Hello there. I am an aspiring alternate history writer and I recently started writing this story last May & June, after about a couple of years of deliberation. Although its ultimate focus is on North America, is also intended to cover the rest of the world as well. It started with a very small POD(point of divergence); Jefferson called for an informal meeting of some close associates on June 9th, 1805. This, by itself, wouldn't have likely made much of an impact, but the TL slowly diverges from our reality with a revolt in Florida, the death of South Carolina statesman C.C. Pinckney, and the delay of the Slave Trade Act in Britain.

Then it kicks into full gear when the Embargo Act is tabled by Congress at the request of President Jefferson in April 1807; after that, things begin to go steadily downhill, as the Slave Trade Act fails to pass in Britain(though a modified form eventually passes in America, though not without some controversy), and the American government starts to confiscate so-called 'illicit' goods from British sailing vessels. Meanwhile, while all this is going down, a bitter war veteran and a few of his pals begin to come together to plan the creation of a protest and social advocacy movement in what would become the state of Maine........

Fast forward to 1814: The Napoleonic Wars have ended, with the Emperor in exile, a democratic Switzerland, and a battered, but still hawkish Britain eyeing the U.S. with ever growing suspicion and distrust.....along with some Indians with a score to settle. America, meanwhile, is looking to be ever more ambitious each passing year, with her people & leaders longingly eyeing the lands to the west of the Appalachian Mountains.....
